Therapeutic work in this area will allow you and/or your loved one to explore the pieces of their actual identity and how it aligns with your self-concept. You will learn to rediscover “your” voice and work to move away from making choices based on pleasing others.
For the adolescent, a crucial part of identity is finding the balance between wanting to belong with the autonomy needed to build a healthy self-esteem.
Teens and young adults will work to establish a stable and viable identity while working on areas such as resiliency, adapting to change, and adjusting to maturing physical and cognitive changes. Whereas adults will examine concepts such as reality versus expectation, and ways in which life disappointment has left you feeling stuck or in despair.
